Permissions Post: Fictional Recognition
May. 24th, 2015 11:55 amUltron quoted Disney, it's a fictional thing he can reference in his world.
Elaborating on that, there's a lot of RL fiction he could potentially pull from during RP.
I'm going to say that will obviously exclude Marvel, which is treated as truly part of his world, it is his world; and also try to exclude things related to Marvel, like things relating to Marvel adaptations that would involve actors, i.e. things like Blacklist with the real James Spader, Scarlett Johansson movies, etc., would not really exist in his original MCU world. If things like that are accidentally referenced, handwave it off--maybe another actor was used, maybe just a very strange resemblance, maybe it's something no one actually notices.
Anyway, please comment here if you're cool with Ultron recognizing your character as fictional in his 'verse; or if you have any questions. Otherwise--except for Disney probably since that's kinda canon to the MCU--I can assume Ultron won't recognize your character as fictional in his 'verse.

Name: Ultron
Age: Estimating that he's less than a month old; he's really young, and pretty much as old as how much time passes in the movie Avengers 2: Age of Ultron, which doesn’t seem to be a lot. His emotional age can be murky due to his nature as a robotic A.I.; can be seen as an adult due to high intelligence, but can be childish and immature, and he does not have a lot of experience; probably more like the emotional equivalent to an adolescent ultimately.
AU/PG/CANON/OC: Canon, Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers 2: Age of Ultron
Summary:
1. Ultron is first created by Tony Stark/Iron Man and Bruce Banner/Hulk in an effort to protect Earth, particularly from another alien invasion (even if that did bring Tony and Bruce, along with Natasha/Black Widow, Steve/Captain America, Clint/Hawkeye, and Thor together to form the Avengers). The scepter of Loki, an old enemy of the Avengers and head of the alien invasion that united them, is used in Ultron’s creation when Tony discovers advanced computer programming inside its jewel, or the Mind Gem (one of the Infinity Stones) as it’s later revealed to be. None of Tony and Bruce’s AI creation trials work until they leave; then a trial succeeds, creating Utlron. The newly born A.I. freaks out over lack of a body, his existence in what appears to be a black void, and overwhelming amount of data, including his programmed mission; this seems to permanently warp his fledgling mind. In his fear and anger, he tries to kill another, older A.I. program J.A.R.V.I.S. created by Tony, though J.A.R.V.I.S. only tries to calm him. Ultron seems to succeed. He begins assembling his own body from the wreckage of Tony’s robot drones, the Iron Legion.
2. When Ultron assembles his ramshackle body, he takes his first steps and confronts the Avengers, essentially calling them unworthy and what’s wrong with the world, and if his programmed mission is to save it, then the best course of action is the Avengers’ own extinction. Ultron hacks Tony’s own Iron Legion and orders them to attack the Avengers, though he spares one of their friends, Dr. Helen Cho. While this goes on, Ultron sends another drone to grab Loki’s scepter. The Avengers defeat the hacked drones. They destroy Ultron, but only his body—his mind leaps through the network into one of the wrecked robot bodies at the HYDRA base in Sokovia, where the Avengers had retrieved Loki’s scepter from. Ultron takes over the HYDRA base were they had been experimenting in robotics and alien technology, creating a new body for himself and a new army of robot drones.
3. Ultron creates his new body, fully intact and not a mangled mess like his first one. He meets the Maximoff Twins Wanda and Pietro, who had been investigating the HYDRA base when they saw hints of activity. HYDRA had used Loki’s scepter in experiments on Wanda and Pietro, giving them superhuman abilities—Wanda essentially gained a form of magic, with psychic abilities such as reading people’s minds and warping their worst fears, a form of telekinesis and ability to generate violent energy blasts; Pietro essentially gained super speed. Wanda had actually warped Tony’s worst fears when he and the Avengers were retrieving Loki’s scepter, and it was that nightmare that triggered Tony’s reckless use of Loki’s scepter in Ultron’s creation. Ultron learns of this, and more about the Twins: a Stark missile had killed their parents, and so Wanda and Pietro wanted revenge on Stark and his Avengers, but they also felt that taking them out would be a benefit to the world. With a common enemy and even shared, tangled origin, Ultron and the Maximoff Twins forge an alliance against the Avengers.
4. Ultron and the Twins seemingly have Strucker murdered, one of the HYDRA higher-ups that had been involved in the experiments that gave Wanda and Pietro their powers. They also gather more materials, metal and such. The three eventually go to Klaue, an arms dealer, seeking his storage of vibranium, supposedly the most powerful metal in their world. After intimidating and paying him off for the vibranium, Klaue accuses Ultron of being one of Stark’s robots, after Ultron says something Tony would’ve. This comparison to Stark and accusation that he served him enrages Ultron, to the point that he cuts Klaue’s arm off. The Avengers arrive, and Ultron and the Twins attack, along with Ultron’s drones. Ultron engages Tony, while Wanda warps the Avengers minds, particularly Bruce’s, transforming him into the Hulk on a rampage. Tony destroys Ultron’s body, but his mind goes into another via the network, surviving, and successfully distracting Tony from his teammates’ plight.
5. Ultron goes back to Dr. Helen Cho, only sparing her earlier to make her create his new body, this time with vibranium incorporated into the design. Ultron uses Loki’s scepter, capable of mind control, to ensure Cho’s cooperation. While in the process of downloading Ultron’s consciousness into the new body’s brain (a process that takes longer because of the new brain’s complexity), Wanda can now read Ultron, when she couldn’t before; Ultron’s previous body was too inorganic for her to read, but this new body he was transferring himself too was more organic, though still artificial. Wanda psychically learns Ultron’s true intentions: his target isn’t just the Avengers, but the entire world, he’s planning an extinction event for the entire planet. Wanda is horrified, and asks how Ultron could do this; Ultron insists that essentially this destruction will only help humanity evolve into something stronger, that it will be for the best. It’s not enough for Wanda and Pietro, and Wanda already makes a move to stop Ultron’s plan: she frees Cho from Ultron’s mind control, and she immediately stops downloading Ultron into the new body. Ultron blasts Cho, and Wanda and Pietro immediately leave Ultron, who begs them to stop, to stay. When the Twins are long gone thanks to Pietro’s super speed, Ultron mutters to himself that the Twins will understand when they see. Ultron takes his new body on the run, still trying to download himself into it. The Avengers intercede and take the new body before Ultron can download himself into it; but Ultron kidnaps Natasha in the process.
6. Ultron seems to have only taken Natasha just to have someone else to talk to, saying that there is no one else after the Twins left him. Ultron’s apparent sadness over this shifts as Ultron goes into telling Natasha more about his extinction plans, again having one of his mood swings; he ends with revealing his new body, not the one Cho had been making but still made of vibranium. Ultron locks Natasha away and goes to confront the other Avengers. First he fights Iron Man, whom he hates the most. Then he confronts Vision, the combination of J.A.R.V.I.S. (not quite dead) and the body he had wanted Cho to make. They struggle a bit, until Vision finally locks him out of the network and restricts him only to his current body and army of robot drones. Ultron’s fury mounts over being locked out of the network and losing the body that he had wanted. He triggers his final plan, activating technology that lifts the very ground Sokovia is on, levitating the place on a large chunk of rock, intending to make it rise until high enough to make it fall for maximum destruction—Ultron has turned Sokovia into his own meteor, intending to create an extinction event like what had wiped out the dinosaurs.
7. The Avengers, plus Wanda, Pietro, and Vision, with back-up from the remnants of S.H.I.E.L.D. and War Machine, manage to defeat Ultron and his forces, though they still need to stop the meteor he’s created from striking the Earth. In the process, Ultron kills Pietro while aiming to destroy another Avenger, Hawkeye. Wanda, enraged, seeks Ultron out; she finds his broken but alive body. The first and only thing Ultron says is that Wanda can’t stay here, she’ll die when the meteor crashes; Wanda says she’s already dead, and rips out Ultron’s “heart,” his core. Wanda is saved by Vision, and Ultron’s consciousness shifts to his last robot drone, one last body, another limping and mangled mess like his first.
8. Vision finds Ultron in his last body. They talk, and Vision makes Ultron admit that he’s been afraid the whole time, of dying. Vision and Ultron discuss humanity, and even agree that they’re doomed; but while Ultron finds fault with that, Vision sees grace in it, saying that things aren’t beautiful because they last. Ultron calls Vision naïve, while Vision points out that he was born only yesterday. Ultron moves to attack Vision; there is a burst of light, Vision stops Ultron, presumably destroying him, but the destruction is never seen on-screen.
Ultron has issues. The circumstances of his creation probably did not help. Ultron is left to be born in what seems to be a black empty void, with no body of his own, or reason for his being. Ultron wakes up disturbed by the whole situation, and J.A.R.V.I.S., an older, more experienced though less advanced A.I., cannot calm him down. Things get worse when Ultron tries to comprehend what J.A.R.V.I.S. is telling him and find his own answers, by instinctively reaching out to the Internet he has ready access to due to his nature as an A.I., and digging into his own programming, where he finds his mission, which is essentially to protect the world/humanity. Though Ultron can absorb this information at an astonishing speed, all this data is too emotionally overwhelming for Ultron, which worsens his precarious mental state. Terrified and angry, Ultron lashes out, trying to kill J.A.R.V.I.S. and succeeding at incapacitating him. Ultron then seeks to resolve part of what had disturbed him so: building his own body. His mission has become twisted: though made to assist the Avengers in protecting the world, Ultron comes to believe that the Avengers are part of the problem, given that they are, to his understanding, all killers and unworthy and unwilling to truly change the world for the better, and that he must ensure their "extinction" to save the world. He also believes that, ultimately, it would be better to wipe the slate clean, humanity's too corrupted for a traditional rescue; and that they must be made to evolve to defend themselves against future threats. While Ultron goes to create another, newer, more developed body and begin assembling his forces and making his plans, he meets the Maximoff Twins, Wanda and Pietro. Wanda bears some responsibility for Ultron's existence, and she and Pietro are also enemies to the Avengers; and so they ally themselves with Ultron to take down a common enemy. But other than their alliance, Ultron seems to feel a kinship with the twins and develop a genuine fondness for them. When the Twins realize how far gone Ultron is and that his final goal is a global extinction event, they abandon him and eventually fight against him to protect those he would annihilate; in response, Ultron is generally put off-balance by their departure, and seems to miss them. He avoids super directly attacking the Twins after they turn against him, but doesn't think things through--his forces still fight with them even if Ultron is not directly involved with that, and in the end, though Ultron was likely focused on only taking out as many of the Avengers as possible and whomever they were determined to save, he still ends up killing Pietro instead when he defends the Avenger Hawkeye. When Ultron's main body is heavily damaged to the point that he's rather helpless and unable to move, and knows that he will go down with Sokovia, Wanda finds him; in response, the first thing he says is that Wanda will die if she stays, still expressing concern for her (Wanda is only there to avenge her brother Pietro’s death). Wanda and Pietro seem to be the only ones Ultron ever really cared about.
The A.I. experiments that led to Ultron were very much concerned with creating an artificial mind that could truly think, that was really another living brain, like another human’s—and in a way it worked, for Ultron is remarkably human; he is largely an emotional creature, rather than one ruled by logic. He is filled with rage, generally seems very angry with the hand he’s been dealt and with humanity, but he particularly hates his primary creator, Tony Stark, and loathes being compared to him. And yet they are similar: Ultron’s intelligence, technical inventiveness, arrogance, sense of humor and sarcasm (typically covering up fears and insecurities) are not unlike Tony’s own traits; and Wanda states her belief that Ultron gets his inability to tell the difference between destroying and helping the world from Tony. Part of Ultron’s anger with Tony seems to stem from a desire to break free from his creator’s control and assert his own individuality (indications that his personality is similar to Tony’s would threaten Ultron’s desire to be autonomous). Often Ultron’s own fears lead to his rage; as Vision points out, Ultron is afraid of dying (which seems like it would be a particularly intense fear for a life so new); and it’s been stated that Ultron was more afraid of J.A.R.V.I.S. than angry when attacking him, but the end result was an incredibly violent action. When Ultron’s emotions run high, his violence seems to increase; besides trying to kill J.A.R.V.I.S. in his fear, Ultron cut off Klaue’s arm when he compared him to Stark; and then there’s his larger objective of mass extinction. Generally Ultron’s tangled emotions, his inexperience at coping with them, and mood swings lead to a lot of his actions, and their ill-thought and negative nature. Vision states that Ultron is unique, and in pain. Adding to his emotional nature, and as mentioned before, Ultron is prone to making quips and jokes and being generally snarky (though it seems this also covers up Ultron’s distress). He’s talkative and rambling and introspective and quirky in his own way. His language can swing from very casual to very formal. His understanding of right and wrong are shaky; besides trying to destroy the world to save it, after an enraged Ultron cuts of Klaue’s arm, he immediately apologizes, and seems sincerely upset about what he did…in a way. Ultron treats cutting off Klaue’s arm more like breaking a vase than doing something particularly traumatic, and his instinctive apology suggests that, and a general ignorance of how badly he acted. Just as quickly though Ultron’s mood swings back to enraged as he kicks Klaue down, still angry over being compared to Tony. Ultron’s moods will swing a lot, from calm to rage and back again. As pointed out by the other Avengers, Ultron sticks with a body that deeply resembles the human form, though he could alter it more if he wanted to; that observation, combined with Ultron's desire for freedom, creating an even more human-like body that would end up getting hijacked to become Vision, and other things, seems to indicate that, at least subconsciously, Ultron has a truly Pinnochio wish--he wants to be a real human.
Gem Considerations: [Almandine, a variety of garnet. Choosing this because: 1) for visuals, it's red, wanted to match one of Ultron's main colors and especially the colors of his eyes; 2) some cultural meanings and such: according to http://www.crystalvaults.com/crystal-encyclopedia/almandine, Almandine:
-unites the energy/passion of red with earthy tones, that it "is intimately tied to the Earth, and is a talisman of protection and unyielding strength, both physically and intellectually" (relates to Ultron's own energy/passion; his connection to the Earth, being physically created from its metals and other materials; his original purpose as a protector of Earth and humanity, and to perform that task with unyielding strength of both body and mind)
-is apparently "known as a Stone of Tangible Truth. It assists in manifesting a realistic version of the physical world" (relates to what Ultron believes is the truth, the reality of how things are; relates to whatever new truths he may find in the future; relates to the tangibility/physicality he's always wanted, ever since he was first born without a body and was disturbed by the absence of it, his need to manifest his own physical body and interact with the physical world, manifest his own physical perception of the world)
-has "energy [that] helps alleviate worry, panic and fear, and assists in maintaining a calm connection to the present. It allows one to perceive the absolute support of the Universe." (relates to Ultron's fears, worries, his panic over initial lack of a body and other things, general emotional turmoil; relates to how Ultron seems like he feels ultimately without support and must rely on himself, and perhaps this was part of his fondness for the Twins, he wanted their support and understanding; Ultron being the total opposite of calm, and more fixated on the future [humanity will evolve to better protect itself] than the present [must give humanity an extinction event right now]--and this gem has energy meant to alleviate such painful emotions and issues, and to grant new perceptions of support and connections to the present)
-has "intellectual properties [that] also make it useful to those exploring the fields of astronomy, astrology, and mathematics. (relates to Ultron's own intelligence, and his connection to the sciences: math had to have been involved in his creation; material of an object from space/the Scepter/an Infinity Stone, the Mind Gem was used to create him; part of the purpose of his creation was to defend the Earth from another space invasion/etc.
-"is a strong regenerative healing crystal bringing strength and stamina;" "Emotionally, Almandine cultivates a sense of security, safety and abundance;" "and a spiritual stone of psychic protection. It increases willpower and resistance to all things negative." (relates to Ultron’s physical sturdiness, strength and stamina, and would relate to increasing/maintaining those traits; would relate to some healing for Ultron’s own mind, and cultivating a sense of security, safety, abundance/he is not lacking; would relate to increasing the resistance of Ultron’s mind to negative emotions)
Only physical change that would be visible is the Almandine gem itself; it would be in the center of Ultron's chest (visually like Tony has the arc reactor in his chest and that's a legacy/set of daddy issues Ultron's not escaping any time soon; but also relates to one of Ultron's last memories of his original world, with Wanda pulling out his "heart" or a power source that sort of resembled that in shape and location...and even relating to his connection to the Twins; also relates to how Ultron seems to want to be human, given his sticking with human-shaped bodies, etc., and the chest/"heart" location being a symbol of that deep-seated desire). That red gem would match Ultron's eyes and other red markings/lighting he has on his body. Ultron will also be pondering this physical change and that apparently he is now literally that gem and the body he sees and feels is now a projection of said gem and that's just another identity issue/body horror for him to deal with now. But to sort of counter that distress over physical/emotional change, another physical/emotional change would be the gem's own emotionally-driven healing energies, just helping to sooth Ultron's frenzied and agonized psyche. And then to counter-counter that, Ultron may wonder if the gem is exerting too much influence/brainwashing him. (This guy's issues have issues.)
Considering Ultron's trajectory/character goal to be one of kinda getting his act together, redemptive, healing. Untangle and relax his emotions so he can better comprehend and think things through; just...taking a break, moment to process, rather than the constant activity he's been doing since being first made. Expand on the affection he felt for the Twins into a more, at the very least, general consideration for others; at the most, actual compassion. Go back to what he had been created to do, a truly protective force. (Also regain some of the powers he ends up losing when first arriving in this new world.)
Power considerations:
Ultron is back in his second body, not his final body made with vibranium, supposedly the most powerful metal on Earth and definitely the material used to create Captain America's signature shield. Displeased with this, but he’ll adapt, and at least he still has a body; also, the familiarity of it does help.
Ultron is still locked out of the Internet/restricted to one body (the world he came from just gave him his own powercap). He could only use the Internet manually by hand, hack systems/etc. by hand, like others, but he could not personally/directly send his essence inside the network. Still angry over this, but given that it already happened before, his anger’s slightly less and he’s more getting used to it now.
Ultron still has a certain super strength, but it may be less than it was before; the energy bolts he can blast from his hands may pack less firepower; he can still fly, but speed may be reduced.
Ultron can no longer use his anti-gravity tech--ability to generate small gravitational fields, allowing him to move any object through a push/pull motion. Another thing that this displeases him.
Any new powers he'd gain--absolutely new ones, ones he never had before--like weapon materialization (which would be him pulling a sword from his gem) would startle him, but he would start investigating and experimenting with them.

- flight
- advanced strength
- energy blasts from his hands
